A Rare Audio Record of Samdach Preah Dharmawara Mahathera’s Dhamma Lecture in England in 1973

Samdach Preah Dharmawara Mahathera was a Cambodian Theravada Buddhist monk. He lived in India for over four decades where he established Asoka Mission Vihara in New Delhi for the propagation of Buddhasasna. 

He was also a spiritual advisor to King Norodom Sihanouk and had a close relationship with the first Prime Minister of India Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. 

Annually, from 1973 to 1976, he had been invited to give Dhamma lecture to students from diverse backgrounds at The International Academy for Continuous Education Sherborne, Gloucestershire, England. 

This is the first lecture he gave to the audience there on 18 June 1973, and one of the audio recordings we have obtained recently. It may be entitled “The Life and the Teachings of the Buddha”. But there are a lot more insightful and wise thoughts he had given in this particular talk.

Here he talked briefly yet concisely about the Buddha’s life and his teachings with comparison to other world religions. 

He was a master of green colour meditation and heal it and well-respected monk across Buddhist denominations. He passed away at his founded Wat Dharmawararam, Stockton, CA. USA ion 26 June 1999, at the age of 110.
