IBC Scholarship for international students to study Buddhism in India, 2020-2021

Applications are invited for availing IBC Scholarship from international students for studying Buddhism in India for the academic year 2020-2021. The scholarship is available only to students from Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Mongolia.
Interested students may apply for IBC scholarship after getting admission in any of the following courses in the universities mentioned below:
Shortlisted Universities/slots/courses offered:
1.Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies, (Deemed University), Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh (www.cihts.ac.in) B.A/B.ED 4-years integrated course.
2.Department of Buddhist Studies, Delhi University, New Delhi (www.du.ac.in) M.A in Buddhist Studies 2 year course.
3.School of Buddhist Studies & Civilization, Gautam Buddha University, Greater Noida (www.gbu.ac.in) M.A in Buddhist Studies and Civilization 2 year course.
4.Nava Nalanda Mahavihara (Deemed University), Nalanda, Bihar (www.nnm.ac.in) (i) M.A in Buddhist Studies (ii) M.A in Pali 2 year course.
5.Department of Pali & Buddhist Studies, Savitribai Phule Pune University, Pune, Maharashtra (www.unipune.ac.in) (i) M.A in Buddhist Literature (ii) M.A in Pali 2 year course.
Scholarship offered:
B.A/B.ED course – Up to a maximum of Rs 20,000 pm plus one time mandatory admission fee and tuition fee on actual basis.
M.A courses - Up to a maximum of Rs 22,000 pm plus one time mandatory admission fee and tuition fee on actual basis.
Scholarship offered is for 4 years for B.A/B.Ed course and 2 years for M.A courses. Scholarship granted to the candidates is for the total period of their courses.
One scholarship is reserved for woman candidate.
Tuition fee (TF) and Other Compulsory Fees (OCF) excluding security/refundable deposits are directly paid to the institutions or refunded to the candidates as per actual by the IBC.
IBC will not pay the scholarship for the particular year if the student fails during the academic year. The student will require to write repeat exam. The scholarship for the second year will be resumed on passing the exam.
If hostel accommodation is offered by a university, the student must stay in it.
No other expenses such as air fare, visa fee, medical etc. will be borne by the IBC.
Note: Applicants are advised to read the scholarship guidelines carefully
1. Students desirous of availing of IBC scholarship must first get admission in any of the shortlisted courses/universities by IBC.
2. Interested students need to apply for admission directly to the university.
3. Once admission is granted by the university, candidates must first register online through IBC Scholarship portal to access the Online Application Form for Scholarship.
4. All applicants will apply online through IBC scholarship portal only.
5. Students coming for Undergraduate (UG), Post-Graduate (PG) courses should come with “Student Visa” from the Indian Diplomatic Mission in their respective country. IBC plays no role in obtaining visa.
6. The applicant may apply to more than one shortlisted university.
7. Selected candidates will be informed directly by the IBC through email and by uploading the information in our website (IBC scholarship portal).

Background
International Buddhist Confederation (IBC) is one of the prominent international Buddhist organisation based in New Delhi with heads of the various Buddhist sangha from different countries around the globe including Cambodia in its governing body. It has been working closely with the Central Government of India on the matter related to international Buddhist cooperation.
Under the banner: Collective Wisdom: United Voice, the purpose of IBC is "to create a role for Buddhism on the global stage so as to help to preserve our heritage, share our knowledge, and promote our values and to represent a united front for Buddhism to enjoy meaningful participation in the global discourse."
For the promotion of Buddhist studies in India, in mid-2019, IBC organised Two-Days International Symposium on Scholarship for Studying Buddhism in India with the invited speakers from 10 different countries, namely, Cambodia, Bhutan, India (host), Malaysia, Myanmar, Mongolia, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Taiwan and Vietnam to discuss the modalities and other aspects related to sponsoring scholarships to foreign nationals to study Buddhism in India.
As a result of the Symposium, today IBC begins to offer scholarships for international students to undertake Buddhist studies in India.
