Jamia Millia Islamia, Ranked at 3rd Position among the Top 25 Central Universities in India

Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) has been ranked at 3rd position among the top 25 Central Universities and at 17th rank among top 100 universities by Outlook-I Care India University Rankings 2019, published in the latest issue of the weekly magazine. JMI is a public central university located in New Delhi, India. It was originally established in Uttar Pradesh during the British Rule in 1920 and became Central University by an act of Indian Parliament in 1988. Maulana Mohammad Ali was one of its founding members.

It is of the two prominent Muslim universities in India another being Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh. It has been given Grade A, by the (NAAC) National Assessment and Accreditation in 2015. Faculty members at JMI are recipients of national and international awards and accolades.

JMI has certainly lived up to the promise of the founding-father "to create a human universe that offers inclusiveness, equity, fellowship, justice and peace for one and all". The University radiates the aspirations of New Age India which is raring to play leadership roles in the 21st century. JMI, located in an internationally connected city, offers world class education to foreign nationals at a very nominal cost ranging from $1200 (USD) to $4800 (USD) per annum.

JMI has a wide range of programme of studies (high school level, UG, PG & MPhil/PhD) with total number of students: 23089 (UG 8392, PG 3874 & other). It has attracted as many as 279 foreign students from 39 countries. Many ICCR scholars got admission in the university.

There was one Cambodian student under ICCR Scholarship in 2013 and currently, there is one ICCR scholar from Cambodia.

JMI will be celebrating hundred years of its existence in 2020.

Admission (ICCR & SFS)


Offers of ICCR (Indian Council for Cultural Relations) scholarships are sent to respective Governments through the Indian diplomatic missions abroad. Nominations received thereafter from the respective governments by the Indian diplomatic missions are forwarded to the ICCR for final international placement. International government nominees have to fill prescribed forms for Scholarships for Foreign Nationals that are available with Indian diplomatic missions abroad. Foreign nationals are advised to visit www.iccr.gov.in to ascertain the application procedure.

Through self-financing scheme (SFS) foreign nationals get an opportunity to do internationally bench-marked programs at a very nominal cost ranging from $1200 (USD) to $4800 (USD) for various UG/PG/M.Phil/Ph.D programme. The admissions are announced in Feb/March every year and the closing dates are 30th May (Under Graduate courses), 15th June (Post Graduate courses) and 30th May (M.Phil/Ph.D courses).
