Ven. Yon Seng Yeath's Great Question in his congratulation letter to Ven. Lun Lay

Ven. Dr. Lun Lay (third form front) in queue during Convocation, Sri Lanka, 07 September 2018.

"Is certificate of Preah Kru really of great value in the eyes of Cambodian people?" This is a very painful question for newly completed Doctor who has to answer and to give the answer by yourself. I don't want to answer for you, Preah Acharya."

The evening, 07 September 2018/2562, was the degree distribution day to thousand of students at University of Sri Jayewardenepura), Sri Jayewardenepura, Sri Lanka. Among all the students, there was only one Cambodian monk, Ven. Lun Lay.

He attended to receive his Degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Sanskrit, making him first Cambodian monk who completed this highest study after Most venerable Aggarato Tor Ann who finished his PhD in Sanskrit from Sampurnanand Sanskrit University, Varanasi, India, in the 1960s.

It is a pride for Cambodian sons, Buddhism and nation. It is noted that Ven. Lun Lay studied in Sri Lank since 1996. Nowadays, Sri Lanka is an important learning centre for Buddhist-Pali-Sanskrit studies in South Asia and also a favourable study destination for many Cambodian monks.

Preah Upalivamsa Dr Yon Seng Yeath and Preah Dhammaghosacarya Dr Khy Sovanratana, both are Vice Rectors of Preah Sihanouk Raja Buddhist University, Phnom Penh, who used to study Buddhism in Sri Lank.

It is interesting to mention that Ven. Dr Yon Seng Yeath is the only Cambodian monk who joined Research Fellowship at Havard University, U.S.A.

His meaningful yet pre-cautious letter to Ven. Dr Lun Lay was written in Khmer and posted to the public on his Facebook profile which can be found here.
